Key West, 1991. Don Roy Doyle is back in town. Tough and quick-witted, he’s fresh out of prison, where he served three years for a diamond swindle. Now he’s back to collect his share of the proceeds, about $200,000, but the money has vanished.
A local family dynasty which has controlled the island’s politics for generations, a cop with a grudge, the FBI, and the Russian mob all have a stake in the action. They’re convinced Cuba is on the verge of “opening up”, and they all want Doyle gone.
In this tightly-knit town, who can be trusted? And how long can Doyle stay alive? You can purchase this book today for $3.99.

Thanks, Paula, for the opportunity to be featured on DCR. It’s very much appreciated. I’ve posted a blog on my website along with a link.
Mike Dennis, Key West resident and former musician, knows of what he writes. This is the first volume of a trilogy Dennis calls Key West Nocturnes. His hell-bent-for-leather prose carries you effortlessly to the finale. Reminiscent of Spillane and John D. MacDonald.
This is my favorite of all Mike Dennis’ works. Aside from being wonderfully written, the plot is so carefully constructed that although I challenged myself to figure out what was going on behind the scenes, I failed to decipher all the clues. When the scheme was finally revealed, it all made perfect sense – diabolically tight and weirdly believable. Desperate characters, noir Key West setting make this a thrilling and satisfying read.
This novel is a quick read becasue it’s a paege turner. If you’re like me and you start it at night, plan to stay up til you finish it. Because you gotta know how it ends!
